We are having our bikes shipped from Kentucky to Phx Az in June and we are going to fly out and ride them back to Ky. I was raised in Az and know all the good rides of Az,but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on rides through the N.Mexico,Texas and Oklahoma areas that are a must see.We will be taking 9 days to make it home from Phx to lexington Ky so we are hoping to take in parts of Route66. We are using Federal Motorcyle transport, has anyone ever used them to haul their bikes.

Yup, I used Federal to ship two bikes from No. Carolina to Omaha, Nebr. for the Sturgis event in So. Dakota. Overall, I think they did a good job.

I have never made it as well. If I were in your shoes, I would do a large part of Old 66. Not sure how much you plan on doing but that would be my first choice.
My local dealer has a book for sale on route 66. It is pretty much a picture book for mile by mile on 66 about 4 or so years ago. It points out all of the old original sections of 66, the major landmarks from the original mother road, and a lot of other interesting facts. I will be up there today and will check out the author. I can`t remember what it goes for but I know that it was a he11 of a nice guide for me when I was in St Louis. I saw some interesting stuff that was sorta hidden along old 66 that I would have never seen. Most of it was either hidden or blended in with some of the modern day stuff.
If you wind up going through St. Louis, you gotta stop at Ted Drewes. It is on old 66 and is one of the only original businesses left that is still open. They have killer frozen custard. Also a stop at Doc`s Harley will show you a nice collection of older original gas tanks, harley knives, and some other odds and ends if you are into that kind of thing.

KYD - Two Things
One - Have used Federal Transport a number of times and they always do a superb job.
Two - I made a trip east from San Jose California to Myrtle Beach
Some of the good things I did ----------
Grand Canyon
Four Corners
Amirillo Texas
Down the rim of Texas to Beaumont
The last road south in Louisiana east and all over visiting the Cajuns, Tobasco factory, and New Orleans. Went for a swamp boat tour.
Then for you I would go north to Memphis and then on home.

I have done that trip 3 times in the past 2 months, most of it was on Rt 40. I rode from Va. to Sturgis, checked out the badlands along the way did all the scenery up that way the on out throguh the Bear tooth Mtns. down through Yellowstone, from top to bottom. Went down rt 89 through the Grand Teton national park beautiful mtns. Spent the night in Jackson Hole Wy. rode down rt 89 all the way to Logan Utah, via Idaho. Alot of that ride was along the Snake river, beautiful scenery. Rode I-15 acouple of hundred mailes down by salt lake. And then got back on Rt. 89 and followed that all the way to Flagstaff Az. and hit I-17 and rode that donw near Prescott and got off close to Trip`s house and stayed with him 1 week, then rode back to Va. I took rt. 276 and followed that through the Mtns. and came back onto I-40 at Winslow Az. I then followed I-40 all the Way to Tenn. where I picked up I-81 and rode that to Roanoke Va. and then picked up rt. 460 the resto of the way home.
About 3 weeks later Streetbob and i rode back to Az. except We went to Mesa and Visited Hellcat Gib and his wife. That was almost all I-40, except at Albequerque We picked up I think it was I-10 and followed that to Rt. 60 and we rode that all the way through the mtns. over into Mesa AZ. ,it comes through the Salt River canyon. It is a beautiful ride, I suggest you hit that on your way back.
I rode back home this time alone Streetbob had an accident and flew home, and I did I-40 mostly. I did stop in a town called Adrian Texas, and i ate at the Rt 66 diner, it had a souveneir shop there it might be of intrest to you. It was the halfway point between Chicago Ill. and Los Angeles Ca.. The food was good there too , and the folks running it are real nice people.
When I rode to Sturgis the first trip, I came through Louisville on I-64 and picked up I-65 up to Indianapolis and caught _74 west. That day i rode from 10 miles east of Petersburg Va. to the Iowa state line in 19 hours.

McG,
I love your map; I gotta do one of those. Although, mine won`t have as many lines on it as yours does.
