Hey all....been awhile since I posted and I need your input. Unfortunately I wiped out on my 2006 Superglide. Nothing major, just went down on loose gravel when making a right hand turn. No major damage to me and just scraped the pipes and messed up one saddlebag.
I had a ride planned that morning with BACA so I picked myself up, dusted myself off and went on the ride. The ride was about 70 miles from my house. I had no issues whatsoever on the way to Waxahacie. However, on the way back every time I let off the accelerator the bike would back fire. If I went to down shift the bike would die. I was able to hit the run switch while in motion and it would start right back up.
We rode back to a toy run preparty. Riding home from that party to my house is about 20 miles. I had no issues with the bike then.
I ride in heavy traffic and can`t afford for the bike to be acting up. Any ideas on what it might be? Where do I start trouble shooting? Or was it a fluke? I figure if I knocked something loose on the power commander it would be a constant problem.....not intermittant. I was low on fuel when I dumped and had considered air in the lines but I would have thought that would have been an issue earlier than it was.
Your input is appreciated.

HHL - Real happy to hear that you`re okay. As you describe it my guess would be you stirred up a little crap off the bottom of your tank. I would add a couple of ounces of STP gas treatment to a full tank. Tattoo might come on with a good technical assessment of the situation though.

Since you went down and the problem started after, you may have dinged a wire up in the switches on the handle bar and it could be shorting out imtermitenly causing the bike to act up.

Thanks for all your concern and help. I`m not going to lie and say it didn`t scare the crap out of me.It did but it could have been worse.
Dumb question....is there a fuel filter on `06 superglides? If so, where is it located? I`ve had suggestions that I start there.

I`m assuming your 06 model is EFI, and I believe the fuel filter would be inside the gas tank.

HHL,
I,m still thinking it sounds electrical, what Smitty44 said makes sense. The only thing is if you drop a bike with an ECM and it dies then you have to cut the switch off and then back on for it to start. I still think you have dinged up a wire somewhere. I have never seen one of those sensors Smitty is talking about not reset when the switch is turned off then back on.
There is alot of wires running into the switches on the right hand side of the handle bars and you coulda broke the insulation a little bit on one of the allowing it to ground out .
