Not sure about aftermarket but I had a badlander seat on my 05 train. THe ride sucked after about 30 miles. Stuck a sundowner on it and it was very comfy. I didn`t like how it looked on the bike so I ended up putting another harley seat on it (can`t remember which one) and it was ok. If you want to go the harley route, the sundowner is nice for the softails.
I have also heard about the gel seats causing the poop in the pants syndrom.

Chaz, I have been thinking about the same thing for a while now. I like the solo look, so I think I am going to get a Le Pera Silhouette Solo http://lepera.com/
I like the look and talked to a fella that loved his for about 200 miles without stopping. Right now I ride the stock seat with the passenger part removed. I can ride 150 without stopping bit hard on the back because there is no support. It is a hard decision though.

Chaz,
I really like my Corbin Solo with backrest. Pricey, but worth it.

I picked up a Mustang two up off a fat-boy for my FLSTS. I had modified teh stock seat but could never get comfortable. The mustang is better but still not comfortable. The rear seat gives some back support but it did not have the cutout for the real back support. From what I have read, the Airhawk is the way to go for any longer rides. Makes the most sense, as you can change the seat - which changes the pressure points - which is what really kills you. I`ve tried the beads (forget it) but not the gel.
After reading this and being reminded of my last painful long ride, I`m thinking Xmas will find an Airhawk under the tree for me.

I swapped the stock seat on my Superglide for a mustang seat. Still didn`t do the trick for me so....I had the leather peeled back and had memory foam put in it. I now stop only because I need fuel. Not because my a** is hurting. Memory foam is what the astronauts chairs are filled with. They have to be able to withstand sitting for quite some time. It cost me about $200 to have it done at a bike rally but it was well worth it.
Of course I probably have a little more cushion on my back side than you guys do. LOL
