Delta Tech Industries Introduces a Super H.I.D. headlight conversion kit for Harley-Davidson motorcycles
Delta Tech Industries began life in 1978 as a manufacturer of auxiliary lights. The company's initial target market was the off-road community and it enjoyed success with many famous racers such as the late Mickey Thompson. Not long afterwards the company began producing lights for the OEM and private labels such as Sylvania among many others. A few years ago the company decided to market all of their products under their name and consequently began to expand the line from five models to what have now become over one-hundred different models and styles of lights for the automotive aftermarket.
One of the newest products Delta Tech Ind. offers is the new low-amp draw motorcycle H.I.D. headlight series. They offer a range of different sizes and configurations for different motorcycle headlight styles including Harley-Davidson and custom choppers using standard 7-inch or 5-3/4-inch round headlamps. Both the FATTY 700 7'' Low-amp Draw Motorcycle H.I.D. Headlight and the SLIM 500 5 3/4'' Low-Amp Draw Motorcycle H.I.D. Headlight come with a 21 watt compact ballast/igniter which draws only 1.75 amps per light and will not drain your battery. They are a direct replacement for your stock headlights. At 6,000K rating, these systems will exceed daylight brightness by 10 percent!
All Delta headlights are equipped with lead crystal lens with "E" mark certified precision optics and steel stamped reflectors. Ballast and headlight will fit in most existing buckets and plug right into the existing light wiring harness which makes installation super easy.
So if you have ever wanted to improve your low-light driving experience, then H.I.D. is definitely the light you will want. You won't believe how much light the Delta series will put out. Check out the following steps to see just how easy it is to install. For this installation we visited Lifestyle Cycles where their technicians installed the Fatty 700 series into a '98 Harley-Davidson Road King.

First step was to remove the Road King headlight beauty ring by using a small screwdriver to remove the clamp screw at the bottom of the ring. | There is another small screw just inside the ring which secures it to the headlight assembly. | Screws removed, the beauty ring is carefully lifted off of the headlight. It would be a good idea to have a soft place to put these items during the assembly to keep them from getting scratched. |
Under the beauty ring is another ring, this one is a headlight surround bezel and removes the same as the outer ring. | There are three screw mount locations holding the light retainer clip, remove the three screws carefully to remove the headlight from the bucket.
| Next we removed the entire headlight mount assembly. Be sure not to remove the bucket from the assembly via the headlight adjustment screws, otherwise you will have to correct the headlight aim position later. | |
Though the inside of the headlight housing might seem tight, there is actually plenty of room for the Delta ballast. Since the interior wall of the headlight housing is round, several layers of double-side 3M tape is installed onto the back of the ballast to build up the center in order for the tape to have full coverage on the interior wall. | We found the left side to have suitable room for the ballast and placed deep enough so that it won't conflict with the fit of the headlight assembly.
The ballast power wire features the same wiring connector as the factory harness on the bike which makes integrating the H.I.D. ballast into the lighting system extremely easy. | Next we loop the extra power cord and light wires together, zip tie them and place them inside the bucket housing as shown. | The headlight bucket/adjustment assembly is now reinstalled. |
Connecting the Delta headlight wires to the ballast wires is totally foolproof. One is male and one is female to avoid any confusion. | The new Delta Fatty 700-series light is not installed into the housing. If you didn't mess with the aiming screws, the light will shine in exactly the same direction as the factory light did, but obviously a whole lot brighter! | The inner and outer beauty ring are reinstalled back onto the headlight. Make sure all mount screws are permanently tightened. |
And with that, you now have an incredible improvement to your Harley's light system which will provide 6,000K rated light that exceeds daylight by 10 percent!
